With a Dad who worked
for the Department of
Natural Resources
before retiring and an
Uncle who is a wildlife biologist specializing in ornithology, it’s no wonder I developed a love for capturing what is happening in nature. As seen in the photo of me as a kid, I learned how to use binoculars at a young age. It was only a matter of time before I was taught how to use a camera. I distinctly remember heading to the pond in the backyard with my Uncle to see what we could see. With his help holding the body and lens, which was massive for my little arms, we’d set up a shot together. Click. And so started my photography journey. While most of my photography during my youth focused on things in the neighborhood, Dad and I would journey farther afield. Sax Zim Bog is a favorite to see boreal birds including gray jays, red-breasted nuthatches, and a smorgasbord of owls (if you can find them).
During the COVID-19 pandemic, I started posting a Daily Dose of Nature (#DailyDoseOfNature). There was so much anxiety and confusion during the pandemic, especially during the early days, that I wanted to bring a little relief to people’s social media feeds. I turned Daily Dose of Nature into a coffee table book at the end of 2022. The first run sold out and I plan on creating more in the future!
For the past 10 years, I was a professional naturalist. Professional meaning I got paid to teach about nature. I will always be a naturalist even when it’s not my official job title.
When I’m not out in the field photographing,
I enjoy spending time
with my hubby and
our family and friends,
gardening, reading,
cross stitching,
and kayak/canoeing,
and fishing.
